Water Quality
Melbourne
It is proven that Melbourne has some of the highest quality drinking water in the world. The water is tested regularly, ensuring that it has met the strict water quality requirements and can be treated for any harmful diseases if needed, though unlikely. Therefore, according to ‘Melbourne Water’ the water quality in Melbourne is healthiest water on the planet because experts look at the health-related aspects of water quality as well as factors like colour, taste and smell. The requirements and guidelines that must be followed are:
Dharavi
According to ‘Under-generated cities’ the fresh water pipes in Dharavi bring in very mucky and unclean water, which therefore needs to be let go and wait for clean water or most residents of Dharavi filter the water using a fine fabric and boil for drinking purposes. Failing to boil the water that families receive in Dharavi, they are at the risk of being contaminated with 3 water borne diseases such as typhoid, diarrhoea and TB.
The water that is received from the BMC supply chain has grown dirtier and by the water samples that were tested, some were found unsafe for consumption. Officials say that the contaminants found in the water in Mumbai were sand particles, sewage water and other bacterial content.

Summary
As Melbourne is rapidly growing each year and Dharavi is increasing quickly, these two cities have power to become mega cities. Due to the good resources found in Melbourne, it is easier to build good long lasting homes and easier access to everyday needs and clean drinkable water. However, in Dharavi, it is difficult to find clean, drinkable water and the homes are built among rubbish tips. Unlike Dharavi, Melbourne has a lower mortality rate due to our developed county and the good conditions we live in. This indicates that India needs to understand that the illnesses that can be contracted in their cities are a major apprehension for the country. With the recycling industry in Dharavi organized by the citizens, this is a huge aspect that needs to be included with the features of a mega city. Therefore, with the positive features from both cities, they have the potential to become a mega city.

Reflection
I believe what worked well in this task was getting us to compare a developed city with a slum to find out the differences and similarities and what can be taken from those cities to form a mega city. However, on the other hand, with the positives there were also some challenges faced towards this assignment. The topics that were requested to research were difficult to find information on, also the information that was found was not quite the ones I wanted to find.
